The 2015 Ironman 70.3 Switzerland is my 4th race in Switzerland since transitioning to triathlon.  Last year I raced in the full Ironman Switzerland and I have I have also done the 70.3 event a couple times in years past.   This year I have been racing two half-distance events prior and my fitness is on the rise so I was extra motivated to come to Switzerland and give it full gas.

I won’t bore readers with the exact details of the race so here is a quick summary that gives the important parts:

  • Swim:  No secret here that the swim is not my strong area.  I can say that I felt a bit better than my last couple races and came a little closer to making the 2nd pack, which will make a big difference in my results once I can get there. One step at a time…
  • Bike:  Here is where I planned to put my energy.  Quite simply, you can’t get a good result in 70.3 without a strong ride.  I took some risks on the bike and really pushed from the beginning to end.  The results showed and I kept the front guys relatively close.  Unfortunately the gap from the swim was too much and I started the run with little chance of catching the top 3.
  • Run:  Considering the effort I put into the bike, I am satisfied with my run.  I couldn’t really push any harder and felt like my legs were rolling nicely on the run.  My time was not too impressive but I have to factor in the two times up the ‘stairway to heaven’ that slows it down a bit.

Overall:  I can’t complain!  I really did push 100% and didn’t make any mistakes, so that is pretty much a perfect day.  I do still believe I have lots I can improve but today that was my best and I am satisfied with that.

Cheers for now!
